Can you get a dumpster same day?
Often yes, if you call early on a weekday and the provider already has that size sitting on the yard — same-day roll-off delivery is normal in the Hattiesburg area, not exotic. It is never a promise, though: it depends on that day's truck and route, so treat it as something to ask about and always have a next-day fallback.
What actually decides it
The time of day you call. Roll-off routes are built in the morning, so a call before about 9am has a real chance of being worked into the run. By early afternoon the truck is usually committed and you are asking someone to add a trip.
Whether the size you want is on the ground. A provider with an empty 20-yard in the yard can drop it today; one whose 20s are all sitting full on other jobs has to pull one first, and that is a different job with its own schedule.
Where you are. Hattiesburg, Petal and Oak Grove sit in the core area for most providers here, so a same-day add-on is a short detour. Richton, New Augusta, Wiggins and Mount Olive are far enough out that a same-day trip means a dedicated run, which is exactly the request most likely to be turned down.
The day of the week. Saturday delivery is limited across this market and Sunday is largely not a thing. Friday afternoon is the other hard one — that is when providers are clearing the week's pickups.
How to ask so you get a straight answer
Ask for an arrival window, not a yes. 'Can you do today?' gets an optimistic answer from anyone; 'what window can you commit to, and who calls me if it slips?' gets a real one. Only the company with the truck can commit to a time, and no one should be promising you a driver's afternoon on your behalf.

That means a straight run of roughly 60 feet, nothing parked in it, no low limbs or service drops over the drop spot, and someone reachable by phone. A truck that arrives and cannot set the can is a wasted trip, and in this market that is commonly billed at $150 to $200.
Say what you are throwing away while you are on the phone. Concrete, brick, dirt and shingles are dense enough to change which can they send, and finding that out at the curb is how a rushed delivery turns into a second one.
When same day is the wrong thing to chase
If the can has to sit on a public street, same day is usually off the table regardless of truck availability — street placement needs a city permit, and permits are rarely instant. Put it on your own driveway or yard and the problem disappears.
If the real problem is that nobody is available to load it, a dumpster arriving today does not help. That is a labour problem, and junk removal solves it faster even though it costs more per cubic yard.
And if it is one pickup load of brush or a couple of pieces of furniture, a county convenience site or a neighbour with a trailer beats paying rush pricing on a can you will barely fill.
