A 10-yard handles a typical single-car garage clearout, and a 15-yard covers a packed two-car garage or one with years of accumulation. Both normally come with about 2 tons of disposal, which is well beyond what household clutter weighs.
Sizing it honestly
A 10-yard is about three pickup loads. Most single garages fit; if you are looking at a garage nobody has emptied in a decade, take the 15.
Volume is your limit here, not weight — garage junk is bulky and light, so the tonnage allowance is rarely the constraint on this job.
Watch for the prohibited pile
Garages are where the banned items live: old paint, solvents, car batteries, tires, and the beer fridge with freon in it.
Set those aside before the can arrives. The county holds household hazardous waste days for the chemicals, and tires go to a tire dealer.
